Developing always-on social video content for New Zealand’s favourite chicken.

As New Zealand’s favourite quick service restaurant, KFC wanted to expand its social footprint by showing up natively in the places Kiwis spend their time - especially TikTok and Instagram. 

The challenge? Earning attention in-feed while staying true to the brand’s iconic personality and connecting with a new generation of chicken lovers.

We The People partnered with KFC NZ to lead their approach to social video and TikTok expansion, tapping into culturally trending moments and shared Kiwi rituals like that first hot chip, flatmate dinners, or late-night chicken runs. Our strategy focused on embedding the brand in everyday humour, leaning into local nuance, and building relevance through participation, not interruption.

Working in four-week sprints, we rolled out an always-on content program that brought KFC’s limited-time offers and menu promos into the cultural spotlight. Our Auckland-based team developed creator-integrated content, lo-fi brand storytelling, and platform-native formats that embraced classic Kiwi humour and played into community trends. From duets and stitches to tongue-in-cheek replies, KFC became a brand that didn’t just advertise on TikTok & Instagram Reels - it belonged there.

In 2024, KFC NZ’s social presence exploded, racking up over 65 million organic views across TikTok and Instagram. More than just eyeballs, we built a culturally relevant brand persona and an engaged community hungry for what’s next.
